As we glide through September, the dark and horror gamer part of myself starts to peek out from the shadows. Peering out to see if it’s her time to parade around the blog and other social media outlets to speak about dark fairytales, creepy characters, terrifying novels, and nightmare fuel games. Welcome to the side of Gray’s Otome and Visual Novel Corner that focuses on both VN and Cozy Nook aspects of Gray’s Otome & VN Corner.
Where suspense, thrillers, and horror games take over. While some otome games meet the creepy aspect of the horror criteria, it’s rare… depending on what game you’ve gotten into your hands. Before we proceeded, I’d like to say thanks to Kelly from Another Book in the Wall Blog for making these Halloween themed prompts!
Reader beware, these visual novels aren’t for those who want romance flair, these are for those who dare to face their darkest nightmares.
If you aren’t a horror fan please check out my other blogs! Otherwise, if you like terror and creepy stuff…

Has anyone seen that movie called, ‘It Follows’? Where an evil ghost follows you no matter how far you run, it’ll keep following you until it gets you, but in order to rid yourself of the entity is to have sex with another person to pass it onto. Another good example would be ‘The Ring‘ where if you watched the cursed videotape, the only way to break the curse from you or give you time to live, is to have someone else watch the tape.
Now that I may have refreshed your memory or reeled you in, in today’s blog, I’m going to speak to you about books and movies that never left me, even after I was finished. Some of these items I’ve talked about previously from other blogs, but in this entry, I get more in depth about why I will never forget them. Whether these books were based on true stories, or the writer was just that creatively twisted in making the content–who really knows? What we do know is, that the it will never leave me, and it forever follows, as a reminder that I’ve seen horror in the darkest of films and also in the very pages of a book.
This blog get’s disturbing, as another warning, some of the content in here or most of them are disturbing as hell. Reader’s discretion is advised!

Whether you’ve watched the movie or read the book, this emotional and mentally scarring horror masterpiece will never leave me. I refuse to re-watch it or read it, just absolutely not. As from what I’ve been told, whether they are fact or fiction, that this book is based on real events of exorcisms that have been documented over the course of history. Since Hollywood loves to drum up the suspense and horror, as a kid, this movie still terrified me–what was even worse was when I got older and found out that exorcisms are real events that do happen.
A good example, although I’m not sure if many people even liked it, was the movie that Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal) had starred in called ‘The Rite’ which is based off a real priest who performs exorcisms.
Whether you are a believer or not, or a person of faith, I cannot begin to even describe the ultimate terror that this creates within me. I believe that even when the actors and actresses were filming The Exorcist, the set seemingly became haunted after that. While I cannot confirm or deny that, these are just rumors, and I never delved further into it because I will never touch anything that has to do with this movie ever again. LMAO, I would flat out shut down anyone who asks me to watch this movie or it’s remake.

To let you all know, I knew what I was getting into when I decided to watch this movie. I went with my best friend and sister when we sat in the back row of the theater on opening week for this film, and we weren’t the same after watching it. We legitimately had called my best friend after we watched the movie, and had her on the phone with us all night (we were zombies in the morning) because this movie haunted us. I won’t ever watch it again, and what sucked… this movie did follow me.
Cue in the documentary of Anneliese Michel… I had no idea when I was up one night on Youtube watching ghost story documentaries that this would pop up on my feed. I also didn’t realize this was the story that the movie was based on, and because I was fairly naive… I watched it, including listening to the graphic recordings of the exorcism that was in the documentary. I could not sleep for almost a week because I swear I would awaken at 3AM and feel the sliver of fear stab into my chest. Looking into a dark room and with a barely visible night light in the corner, I felt full body chills, and the feeling that something was watching me up close and personal–and I couldn’t see it. I am still haunted by this entire film and the story of Anneliese Michels.

Whether you’ve watched the movie or played the game that came out on Wii awhile back ago. Ju-On is an unforgivable piece of horror that I won’t watch again, after all the haunting it transpired including the fear it managed to sear into my being. When I first watched the movie, it was with a bunch of friends, and while I knew they poked fun at the movie to try and liven things up. They may not have been scared, but I was, considering all the stories and folklore that has been told in my family.
The fact is, they make you suffer…
While Ju-On is based off an entity that is called an Onryo, a vengeful spirit who makes your life a living breathing insufferable hell on earth until the day you die. The fact is, they make you suffer, and leech that suffering, and terror until you take your own life; or you finally die from the exhaustion of the haunting you suffered through. The infamous croaking noise that spirit makes echoes in my mind, and even at times there are moments I expect her to crawl down my stairs while I’m up at night baking goods and such.
Even playing the game, it was a lot to take in with just the jump scares involved but that sound… It haunts, it follows–the grudge keeps spreading. It’ll never end, until she’s consumed everything–her anger will never stop–it will keep following.

Some of you may remember this book as one of the core novels we are meant to read, dissect, and learn from on regards to the Holocaust in high school. I won’t go into a history lesson here, but those of you who have read this book, I applaud you. As this was one of the most truly disturbing novels besides another one, that has not left me after all these years. This book is written by a survivor of the concentration camps, and may the lord bless this man’s soul after seeing the horrors of what lay within that camp and the evil that resided in these devils.
I could taste the air and smell the decaying bodies of the innocent lives as we stepped back in time and read the story from his perspective.
I will never forget a lot of sentences in the book, especially a particular line that echoes suffering and anguish. I could taste the air and smell the decaying bodies of the innocent lives as we stepped back in time and read the story from his perspective. This book made a very deep, dark impression in my mind, and it will never leave me. It continues to haunt me to this day.
-ˏˋ♥̩͙♥̩̩̥͙♥̩̥̩ ⑅American Psycho by Bret Ellis⑅ ♥̩̥̩♥̩̩̥͙♥̩͙ˊˎ
This book inspired the movie of the same name, and is a psychologically big mindfuck of horror, I wouldn’t place it up there with Hannibal but I will preach that this book is disturbing to the point of absolute madness. I want to say that Patrick Bateman (the main character of American Psycho) has scarred my memories, and Christian Bale as the lead in the movie, portrayed Patrick so well, that I can’t erase the image off him. It was really hard to see Christian Bale as Batman, when all I could see was Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. The thing about this novel, you don’t even know what is actually going on…
I am not sure what Patrick actually sees, as he is a corrupted and is unreliable source of a narrator. He seeks control, validation, it’s bone chilling to read his emotions and also his insecurity. I felt cold, and got colder with every page I read until I became completely numb to the point that when I placed the book down. I wasn’t sure what I had just consumed, and questioned my life choices and had to journal about my feelings. This is a graphic and disturbing book, and film, and it will haunt you for a long time.
Some of these novels or movies, may be mere child’s play for people, and not so scary to consume and binge them like normal. For me, it’ll never be easy to digest or rid them from my conscience as they held a lot of lessons, per se, and also a lot of nightmare fuel to chase me for the rest of my human life. A lot of the content I spoke about are works of literature or media that cannot be erased from either history or the depths of my mind. The explicit narratives that have been created for the materials above, whether they were created for pleasure or to give understanding of true horror and despair, the fact is, they will haunt me. They’ve carved a place into my mind, and have made a nest in my memories so I can’t ever forget. When I believe that all is safe, remember.. it follows.
