I don’t even know where to begin with how much I loved this book! This is the first book in the series of ‘A Chatty Corgi Mystery’ by Jennifer Hawkin, and I am so glad I picked it up. In this novel we meet Emma (our main amateur sleuth), and her beloved Corgi, the ever faithful and strong protector, Oliver. After a few complications in her life occur, Emma moves from her big city life to live in a small town named Trevena to open up her own tea shop. After only being there for a few days, trouble brews as the owner of the building Emma had hoped to buy–is murdered after she had a bit of an unpredictable moment with Oliver running into the said owner’s garden and causing a ruckus.
I love cozy mysteries, not only do they mostly remain clean with their dialogue, but they also focus (usually) on the plot of the story and building the characters up as the mystery continues. Emma is an amazing heroine, she’s immediately someone a reader can relate to, and Oliver is the most adorable dog imaginable. I believe the author completely nailed the doggy’s personality, and also the other animals that happen to cross Emma and Olier’s path.
I truly enjoyed the mystery and solving the whodunit, as it did take a bit of going back and forth through the novel to figure out who the criminal(s) were. With the utmost happiness, this book deserves five out of five stars for it is one of the most entertaining books I’ve read this year. Hooah~!
